Samay, a 9-year-old boy living with his family in a remote village in India discovers films for the first time and is absolutely mesmerised. Against his father’s wishes, he returns to the cinema day after day to watch more films, and even befriends the projectionist, who, in exchange for his lunch box, lets him watch movies for free. He quickly figures out that stories become light, light becomes films, and films become dreams.
Samay and his wild gang of friends decide to find a way to build their own film projection apparatus. They will move heaven and earth to fulfil their dream.
Directed by Pan Nalin (Samsara, Angry Indian Godesses), this multiple award-winning film (and official Indian entry to the 2023 Oscars) is a passionate and sincere love letter not just to cinema but also to life itself.
Screening at A&I Hall, 3 Station Street Bangalow

“Last Film Show is as visually intoxicating
as it is thematically rich.”
Austin Chronicle
“An autobiographical fable, set in the humble rural world of the beautiful Indian state of Gujarat, and a poignant elegy to the art that changed the twentieth century.”
